HISTORY OF THE TOURNAMENT |
|
Just like a number of great adventures, the Coupe Soccer Laval had very humble beginnings and the effort is due to the will of a group of volunteers, parents who wished their children could live an experience of competition. The First Edition of the Coupe was organized in 1985. Ever since the very beginning, with 8 teams on the move, 150 players in all, the progression of the Coupe Soccer Laval never stopped, and neither did the desire to surpass a reputation for excellence among the community of soccer ball enthusiasts. The event, once called the Coupe Soccer Laval, is now the Coupe Soccer Internationale de Laval, but the change has been limited to its name. The Coupe, by promoting physical activity, healthy competition, teamwork, true camaraderie, excellence, performance, even elitism (AAA), has always encouraged accessibility and involvement of young players in its tournament. Without ever renouncing its mission, the Steering committee has seen a transformation of this regional recreational activity into a sport and tourist event of international scope. Winner of the Grand Prix du Tourisme in 1998, member of the Ambassadeurs Club (Laval) and declared Event of the Year 2005 by the Fédération du Soccer du Québec on the occasion of their prestigious Gala, the Coupe has been a symbol of excellence for a long time. Since 2005, the Coupe Soccer Internationale de Laval has been presenting – all in one week –a series of events : the Coupe junior (U-9 to U-18), the Festival (U-7 and U-8), the Coupe Senior Adidas, and the Coupe Internationale (semi-professional calibre). You will therefore see more than 500 games, 13 categories, 300 teams, not to mention 6500 athletes from Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, the United States, and Europe who will face each other in a spirit of true camaraderie, irrespective of color or language - and this in front of 50 000 people... Quite a challenge!!! |
